Sandeep Kaur: A woman from Kashmir taking art to Mumbai
Sandeep Kaur : Her journey with art started way back when she was a child. " what I remember clearly is that our art teacher Mrs.Hajra begum would pay extra attention to students who were somehow good in art and I was also the lucky one, so credit goes entirely to Hajra ma’am for noticing and instilling art in me" said Sandeep Kour
“For what it’s worth: It’s never too late to be whoever you want to be. I hope you live a life you’re proud of, and if you find you are not, I hope you have the strength to start over again”. – F. Scott Fitzgerald
Sandeep Kaur was born and brought up in Srinagar, a proud Sikhni from Kashmir, did her schooling from the Mallinson Girls’ School, graduation from Govt. College for Girls M A Road and post graduation from Kashmir University.
Painting was always a hobby for her, art came naturally to her but she never thought of pursuing it as a career and there was not much of awareness and avenues at that time. She was a school teacher and taught art & craft as main subject for many years but painting for her took a back seat, used to paint once in a while till her children grew up to be on their own.
Sandeep Kaur said " I still possess beautiful watercolour paintings on different places of Kashmir by well known Kashmiri artist D N Walli as a treasure (my prized possession awarded to me as best artist of the school). These framed paintings in my house are a huge inspiration for me till today"
She restarted art journey on her children’s and friends' persistence and encouragement and she had enough time to paint and fortunately social media also surfaced during that time.
Social media was a bliss for her as she could connect with like minded communities and loved the idea of creating and posting her art quite regularly on her instagram handle. Her Instagram art community has inspired and influenced her a lot.
Social media is a boon to all talented people to create and connect with a larger community just by sitting at home and reaching out to showcase their talent and if lucky get recognized also.
While starting her art journey after so many years she realized how much she loves to paint her beautiful homeland, her childhood memories of walk under majestic chinar trees on bund, shikara ride( as their mode of transportation on Jhelum river) to Mallinson School, long walks with friends to college, Kashmir university campus (one of the most beautiful places)
Everywhere around was just beautiful, snow capped mountain peaks, beautiful clouds moving along, beautiful flowers all around, charismatic chinar trees nature in abundance hence these memories started reflecting in my art.
Mumbai was like her second home but painting scenic Kashmir somehow connected her to the original birth place
It gave her immense happiness and solace to create Kashmir in my art. Her love for Kashmir and Mumbai is reflected in her art though Kashmir dominates it.
"During her stay I learnt more about art, school had given her the base and basics but later in life she learnt art is such a vast area.
She learnt about different mediums, and forms watercolor painting, oil painting, acrylic painting, charcoal painting, calligraphy but her comfort lies in watercolours and acrylics and some brush calligraphy

She tries to teach art to children whenever possible that is one more source of happiness for her.
