Srinagar, June 01: Residents of Al-Farooq Lane, Alamdar Colony Shoor Lal Bazar area of Srinagar on Monday accuses officials of R&B and Jal Shakthi Departments of resorting to inordinate delay in ensuring few meters of sewerage network and drinking water facility in the area. The residents said several households are surviving their days and nights without adequate drinking water facilities, besides "there is no sewerage mechanism in place in the area."The aggrieved residents said that many households are facing tough times due to inordinate delay in water connections by the Jal Shakthi Department and the non-availability of few meters of drainage network in the area by the Roads & Buildings Department.Talking to Rising Kashmir, a local from the area Er Farooq Ahmad said that, "few households in the area have a dire need of water connections for meeting daily needs of life." “Besides water facility to the residents, they also need sewerage connectivity with the main drainage network in the area," he said.Another local, Shabir Ahmad while expressing disappointment over the delay by officials said that the said colony can get water connectivity once the road outside the lane will be cut off to lay the pipes beneath. He said that few locals of the area are causing impediments and thereby "deprived affected households of water facility."He added the locals of the areas who need water connections approached the concerned office multiple times and submitted representations there but nothing was done in their favour so far.The locals of Al-Farooq Lane are also facing tough times due to no sewerage mechanism in place. “The locals on their own laid a 240 feet pipe for sewerage purposes that needs to be connected with the main drainage network. However, the process has been put on halt by R&B," he said.“Earlier we were told by officials to apply online for redressal of complaints but it proved futile when we contacted the concerned office after months," he alleged. The locals appealed to higher authorities to allay the obstructions and resolve the matter at the earliest so that people of the area do not suffer further amid the current pandemic. When contacted, SE Drainage City Ehsan-ul-Haq said he will send a team to the spot in a day or two to ascertain the situation.“I will send a team of officers there to ascertain the situation. If there is some possibility of connecting the inner sewerage line to the main drainage, the department will make the estimate of the work accordingly and will take up the task," the officer said.Meanwhile, the concerned AEE Jal Shakti Department Zubair Naqash said that he will look into the matter and "try to resolve the issue."
