In the serene valley of Kashmir, a young and gifted calligraphy artist is capturing hearts with her talent and determination. Meet Arizoo Irshad, a 19-year-old student from Hawal Pulwama, whose journey in the world of art is as inspiring as it is beautiful.
Currently pursuing B.Sc. Nursing at Skylark Institute of Nursing and Paramedical Sciences, Pulwama, Arizoo has balanced her academics with her passion for calligraphy, turning it into a source of independence and self-discovery.
Arizoo’s love for calligraphy began early. While many her age were engaged in conventional pursuits, she found joy in the intricate strokes of art. “Art, especially calligraphy, became my way to express my emotions and thoughts creatively,” she shares.
Her journey was not without challenges. With just ₹1,400 as an initial investment, Arizoo started selling handcrafted calligraphy pieces. Criticism and doubts surrounded her in the beginning, but her resolve remained unshaken. “I wanted to stand on my own feet and make my family proud. Hard work and determination kept me going,” she says.
A significant source of her strength has been her elder sister, Summe Jan, who stood by her through every challenge. “Summe Jan has been my biggest supporter. Her encouragement gave me the confidence to push forward,” Arizoo acknowledges warmly.
As her artistry gained recognition, her creations started reaching a wider audience. From local admiration to fulfilling custom orders for weddings, anniversaries, and other special occasions, Arizoo’s talent resonated with many. Her calligraphy pieces, often adorned with meaningful quotes and verses, leave a profound impact on those who view them.
“Art has the power to inspire, connect, and heal. Seeing my work bring happiness to people motivates me to keep improving,” she reflects.
Today, Arizoo has achieved financial independence through her craft. But for her, the journey is about more than just earning. It is about growth, resilience, and self-expression. “Becoming independent was my dream, and I’m proud to have achieved it. Yet, I know there is always room to evolve as an artist,” she says with determination.
