Women from Kashmir- Darakshan, had an offer to study in University of Edinburgh NEEDS HELP
Self Wittten by the same women - Darakshan
Darakshan, A women from Kashmir and former student of Jamia Millia Islamia University residing in Pampore, Kashmir. I hold an offer to University of Edinburgh for Advanced Technology in Financial Computing.
It is one of the top 20 universities in the World with an acceptance of 8.3% . I am the first woman from my region to get selected for an advanced technical course at this prestigious university.
As a woman and a mom it fills my heart with humility and pride to think of me breaking barriers and stepping into the world of education again.
Generally the society tends to believe that women should not pursue their career after becoming a mother. I want to break stereotypes and inspire women to continue pursuing their dreams. There is no age or marital status or peer pressure that should stop a woman from pursuing her dreams.
came to Kashmir after getting married. Never have I imagined that life can be so difficult. Basic things which we take for granted almost every day are a privilege for people living here.
Schools and colleges are shut since August 2019 that is even before covid -19 pandemic. Situation here mostly remains tense, internet shutdown is frequent and amid this students suffer the most. I just couldn’t sit back and watch all the kids miss out on their studies due to lockdown.
I started providing tuition to help them in studies but with the rise in covid 19, I had to switch to video calls and telephonic lessons which was again a tough task due to 4G ban. During this period, I had conversation with mothers, and I realized the mental stress mothers are going through.
Single handedly managing the house, kids and their studies are not the easy task. Speaking to them I realised mothers often forget their dreams in order to build dreams of their children. I want to motivate mothers here and everywhere, influence them to focus on their ambitions too.
After having my son, I was constantly supported by my husband to pursue my dream. His encouragement and my affinity to study further led me to apply to the University of Edinburgh. I have been given this opportunity; I want to utilize it for the welfare of all the women who brush aside their dreams under peer pressure. After all – “You educate a woman; you educate a generation
I want to build a technical training institute for women and provide all women an equal opportunity to prove that women are no lesser than men when it comes to technology. Given an opportunity women can excel in any field they want.
I need your support in doing so. Despite securing a partial scholarship and a partial loan, I am facing challenges to finance my tuition fee. I humbly request you to please consider contributing to my tuition fee fundraiser
Your support will change lives and be an inaspiration for all the women to never give up on their dream .
